    Back in the Fall of 2024, at my grandmother’s funeral, a cousin said, “I am here because she was faithful.”In many ways that statement was true for all of her family who were sitting there, at her funeral, listening. We were there because she was faithful. Faithful even when times were hard, even when her own people shunned her, even when she lost a little son, even when her marriage was shaky, even when she had to go at it alone, she was faithful. She wasn’t perfect, but she kept picking up and going on. She kept believing in what she believed in, and she kept making sure all the rest of us did, too. What a legacy! It’s hard to be faithful in our values, our integrity, when it seems to be in vain and no one seems to understand our creed or the call in our hearts to die on a certain hill. Can we do it for those coming after?We’re not on earth to fulfill only ourselves, but to leave something better than we found it. To work the road to make it easier for those behind. Many of those who went before us sacrificed many things to make it better for us and we have a responsibility to build on their legacy.
